How this differs from News
News reports a dated, sourced event and what it means for one position — it's reporting, cited to outside sources. Opinion is the reverse: I start from data already published on this site (the correlation matrix, the exposure dashboard, a comparison table) and argue a case from it.
Every piece here is labeled interpretation on purpose, including the ones where I end up correcting my own prior framing in public.
What tends to show up here
- Data-driven arguments
- Using the site's own correlation matrix or comparison tables to make a checkable case, not just a narrative one.
- Self-corrections
- Places where a closer look at the data changes how I've been describing my own risk or a thesis.
- Cross-holding themes
- Arguments that span multiple positions rather than a single-name update.
The archive now includes three filing-based deep dives published August 20 — see News for dated, single-position reporting instead.

Same Rate Hike, Ten Different Reactions: What Wednesday's Split Tape Actually PricedOn the day the Fed hiked rates for the first time in three years, ten names in AEA's coverage universe split into macro-only decliners, catalyst-confirmed movers, and unexplained momentum. Only one of those groups should worry a careful investor.

The AI Trade Is Becoming a Two-Sided MarketSlower frontier-model development could weaken the urgency of some infrastructure spending while giving software companies more time to turn already-purchased compute into dependable products.

A Warning Is Not an Order Cancellation. But It Is a Reason to Ask What the Valuation Assumes.A public warning about the pace of AI development changed the range of possible outcomes. It did not, by itself, establish slower deployment, lower utilization, or weaker supplier orders. Those require different evidence.

Six of Eight Correlated Names Bounced Back Friday. Two Didn't, and That's the More Useful FactThursday's rate-driven selloff hit eight of my holdings together. Friday, six bounced back on no new news at all — but SanDisk and Nebius kept falling, and Palo Alto Networks did the exact opposite of the group on both days.

A Single Rate Number Moved Eight of My Holdings the Same Direction TodayMicron, SanDisk, AMD, Intel, Vertiv, CoreWeave, Nebius and its leveraged ETF all fell together on one inflation print and one oil spike, not eight separate theses breaking. What that says about concentration I didn't choose.

The Cleanest Story of the Day Explained 6.55%. The Murkiest Ones Explained Nothing.Meta's rally on September 9 had two independent, dated sources behind it. Vertiv's 9.61% drop and Datadog's 7.15% rally had none — a reminder of how much daily price action isn't actually explainable.

Cheap Chips Rallied. Expensive Growth Fell. The Index Barely Noticed Either.SanDisk and Micron rallied on a dated, sourced analyst upside call while Netflix, Palantir and Coinbase fell with no comparable news of their own. That's a valuation story, and it continues a pattern this site has tracked all week.

The Beat Wasn't the Problem. What Was Inside It Was.Palo Alto Networks beat revenue and EPS estimates and still fell 9.28% on a subscription-revenue and gross-profit miss. Four peers with no earnings of their own fell alongside it, including one with genuinely positive same-day news. That's a multiple story, not a company story.

Cybersecurity's Guidance Rally Fully Reversed by Tuesday. SanDisk's Pricing Rally Didn't.Monday's cybersecurity rally was built on raised guidance and a product launch -- a sentiment story. SanDisk's Monday rally was built on a physical NAND supply-demand cycle. When Tuesday's oil-and-yields shock hit, only one of them survived intact.

CrowdStrike Beat and Rose 22%. Marvell Beat and Fell 14%. Guidance Was the Difference. Both companies beat revenue estimates by a wide margin last week. CrowdStrike is up roughly 22% since its report; Marvell is down roughly 14% since its own. The variable that explains the gap isn't the quarter that already happened -- it's the one management pointed to next.

The Concentration Risk I Named Thursday Showed Up FridayThursday's piece said the book's real risk was 60% in one theme. Friday, the names that had rallied hardest into Thursday's close gave most of it back on the same afternoon — a live, smaller-scale version of the mechanism.

The Macro Is Not My Problem. My Concentration Is.Core CPI at 2.5%, high-yield spreads at 2.71%, an uninverted curve — the backdrop is permissive. The largest risk in this 32-position book is 60.37% sitting in one theme across seventeen names, which no cap in my own policy constrains.

The Market Did Not Sell Risk on Monday. It Sold Distance.Volatility flat, gold up, the Dow higher — and the least-established names down 5.4% on average. That is a preference, not a scare, and it found a gap in my own written rules: a single-name cap with nothing governing aggregate exposure to pre-earnings businesses.

AI Hardware Bounced Tuesday. Security Software Kept Falling. That’s Not the Same Story.Four AI-hardware names and four security-software names all fell Monday. The Days the Market Doesn’t Explain ItselfSpaceX's 6.14% rebound has a clean, dated cause. Datadog's 19% decline and Symbotic's 15% decline don't. What it means to treat those two kinds of moves differently instead of narrating a cause that isn't there.
