Thesis StatementNebius operates real, owned AI data-center infrastructure across Europe and the U.S. — not just a story about future demand — backed by a $27B Meta capacity agreement.
Also held leveraged, via NBIL
I separately hold a 2x leveraged ETF on this exact stock (NBIL, 2.78% of the book). Combined, my real exposure to Nebius is larger and more leveraged than either line item alone suggests, even though both lines are individually within policy caps. Full writeup in the July letter.

Investment Thesis
- The Thesis
- Nebius is a vertically integrated cloud provider for AI and HPC, operating its own data centers across Europe and the US — real infrastructure, not just a story about future AI demand, which is why I hold it outright at a real position size on top of the leveraged NBIL bet.
- The Catalyst
- Microsoft became a major client in September 2025 under a multiyear $17 billion compute-capacity agreement — a real, disclosed revenue commitment, and further contract wins of that scale would be the clearest validation of Nebius's capacity build-out.
- The Risk
- Capital intensity of building out data-center capacity could outpace revenue recognition, the Microsoft relationship is itself a concentration risk, and at 88x earnings any disappointment on new contract wins could compress the multiple hard.
- The Connection
- Core to my AI-infrastructure/compute theme, held both directly here and amplified through NBIL — this and its leveraged wrapper are together one of the more concentrated single bets in the book.
Pre-Mortem Thesis Invalidation Parameters
Codified in advance, before any of these have happened, so a future decision to hold or exit isn't rationalized in the moment. If a condition below is met, the thesis as written is invalidated and the position gets re-underwritten from scratch — not automatically sold, but automatically questioned.
| Metric / Event | Automatic Review Trigger |
|---|---|
| Microsoft Contract Concentration | Microsoft, the largest disclosed counterparty, discloses a material pullback or non-renewal. |
| Revenue Recognition vs. Capex | Capital intensity of data-center buildout outpaces revenue recognition for 2 consecutive quarters. |

| EBITDAEarnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization — a measure of operating profitability before financing and accounting decisions. EV/EBITDA compares a company's full value (including debt) to this figure, often used to compare companies with different capital structures. | EV/EBITDA 36.44x; adj. EBITDA margin 45% (Q1 FY26) |
| PEG ratioPrice/Earnings-to-Growth: the P/E ratio divided by expected earnings growth. Below 1.0 is often read as cheap relative to growth; above suggests the market is pricing in a lot of future growth already. Different providers use different growth-rate assumptions, so figures vary by source. | 7.79 |
| Capex | $20–25B (FY26 guidance) |
Valuation Logic
88.49x trailing earnings (more precisely, a forward-revenue multiple given the adjusted net loss) prices in continued ARR re-acceleration toward the $7–9B FY26 exit target; see the full Q1 2026 earnings report for the detailed valuation walk.
About the business
Nebius is a vertically integrated cloud provider focused on AI and high-performance computing — a carve-out of the former Russian tech firm Yandex following sanctions after the Russia-Ukraine war. It designs and operates its own data centers and servers across Europe and the US. In September 2025, Microsoft became a major client under a multiyear $17 billion revenue agreement for computing capacity.
Why I own it
The Microsoft compute agreement is a real, disclosed, multiyear revenue commitment — not just a story about future AI demand. That's a meaningfully different risk profile than most emerging AI-infrastructure names, which is why I hold it outright at a real (if smaller) position size, on top of the leveraged bet.
Risk/Reward Profile
| Bull Case | Bear Case |
|---|---|
| The Microsoft agreement scales as planned, Nebius signs additional large enterprise customers on the strength of that reference deal, and its European data-center footprint becomes a genuine differentiator versus US-only competitors. | Capital intensity of building out data-center capacity outpaces revenue recognition, a single large customer relationship (Microsoft) represents concentration risk of its own, and at 88x earnings any disappointment on new contract wins could compress the multiple hard. |
