Summary and key takeaways

AMD reported Q2 2026 revenue of $11.54 billion, up 50% year-over-year and about 2% ahead of the $11.31 billion consensus, with non-GAAP EPS of $1.66 beating the $1.55 estimate. Data Center revenue more than doubled to $6.7 billion, up 107% year-over-year and now 58% of total revenue, and the company guided Q3 revenue to roughly $13.0 billion, a genuine raise versus the prior ~$12.6 billion consensus. The stock still fell about 7% the next session — a beat-and-raise quarter that sold off because the shares had already run 21% into the print.

Analysis

Data Center doubling and crossing 58% of revenue is the number that matters most for this position — the same AI-infrastructure buildout thesis shared with NBIS, CRWV, and the memory names (SNDK, MU). The customer list attached to the new Helios rack-scale system — Anthropic, Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle, and Meta among others — is the strongest competitive validation AMD has had against Nvidia to date, including a disclosed Anthropic partnership covering up to two gigawatts of MI450-series GPUs.

The one soft datapoint, and the likely reason the stock sold off despite beating on every other line: Q3 gross-margin guidance of roughly 56% is flat sequentially against revenue guided 13% higher, which implies the incremental Helios/Instinct revenue is arriving at close to corporate-average margin rather than the premium economics the AI-accelerator thesis assumes. That's worth watching alongside SNDK and MU, since a rack-scale system pulling in more third-party memory content is a plausible mechanism — and one that would also show up as demand strength on the memory side of the book.

Guidance

Updated investment thesis

AMD remains a Core holding on the strength of genuine, reported Data Center growth — this quarter is the cleanest evidence yet, with real hyperscaler commitments (Anthropic, Microsoft, OpenAI) attached to a product family that only started shipping this quarter. The flat gross-margin guide is the one thing that could complicate the thesis if it persists into Q3 and Q4: it's the first real evidence that scale in this business may not carry the premium economics the stock's multiple assumes.
