SpaceX, Palantir, and Rocket Lab Rally on Real Earnings as Broad Friday Gains Continue
U.S. equities rose broadly on Friday, August 7. The S&P 500 (SPY) gained 0.61% to $773.26, the Nasdaq-100 (QQQ) rose 1.17% to $723.03, the Dow (DIA) added 0.27% to $539.62, and the Russell 2000 (IWM) rose 1.11% to $301.56. Gold (GLD) jumped 2.26% to $398.47 and silver (SLV) rose 2.95% to $57.50, a sharp move in precious metals with no specific dated catalyst in the coverage available. The volatility-tracking VXX ticked up 0.44% even as equities gained.
SpaceX was the session’s largest mover among names this site tracks, rising 15.83% to $133.11. The stock cleared a widely feared overhang — a post-IPO lockup covering 911.5 million shares expired without triggering the sell-off many investors had braced for — and the rally was reinforced by news of a $16.8 billion joint investment with Tesla in a Texas semiconductor facility, “Terafab,” expected to create at least 3,000 jobs. The move followed Thursday’s 6.14% rebound on the company’s first-ever earnings call as a public company, in which it reported second-quarter revenue of $7.8 billion, up 92% year over year, and $14.1 billion of new cloud contracts signed in the quarter.
Palantir rose 10.32% to $172.01, extending a rally that began with last week’s Q2 print — 93% year-over-year revenue growth and 156% EPS growth — after the company announced a new partnership with Nvidia to build a “sovereign AI” computing stack for governments and enterprises. Motley Fool coverage over the weekend valued the company at roughly $413 billion following Friday’s close, within reach of the $500 billion level near its November record high.
Elsewhere on the tape
Rocket Lab rose 9.46% to $82.83 after its 13th Electron launch of 2026 — deploying a satellite for customer iQPS, the rocket’s 92nd mission overall — coming days after the company secured a $397 million U.S. Space Force contract for its new stackable-satellite platform. Tempus AI, an AEA holding, rose 12.86% to $52.05; as of this writing, no dated news coverage explains the move, and it is noted here as unexplained rather than attributed to a cause we can’t source.
