August 2026 · Interim Note
Three Earnings Prints I Can Trace, One Move I Can’t
Friday was a genuinely broad up day across my book: 19 of my 32 positions closed higher, 13 closed lower, and — unusually for a month full of days I couldn’t fully explain — most of the big moves came with a real, dated story attached.
Three I can trace, one I can’t
SpaceX (SPCX), 8 shares, rose 15.83% to $133.11 after its post-IPO lockup — 911.5 million shares — expired without triggering the sell-off everyone was bracing for, and the company separately announced a $16.8 billion joint semiconductor plant with Tesla. That’s a headline I can trace to a number, unlike Wednesday’s 13.61% lockup-fear drop. Read the full writeup on the News page.
Rocket Lab (RKLB), 3 shares, rose 9.46% to $82.83 on its 13th Electron launch of the year, days after a $397 million Space Force contract. ServiceNow (NOW), 6 shares, rose 6.42%, and CoreWeave (CRWV), 5 shares, rose 6.26%, both riding the same AI-infrastructure-earnings mood as SpaceX’s week.
Tempus AI (TEM), 4 shares, rose 12.86% to $52.05 — the single biggest percentage mover in my book after SpaceX — and I couldn’t find one dated article explaining why. SanDisk (SNDK), 2 shares, was my sharpest decliner, down 3.68%. Gold and silver both rallied hard, GLD up 2.26% and SLV up 2.95%, without a clean story attached either. I go further into what that split — three explained rallies against one that isn’t — actually means for how I read a day like this in today’s Opinion piece.
No trades today
The Blackout Rule and Holding Period exist for exactly this kind of session — a good day is still not a decision day. Nothing Friday changes a thesis I’ve already written up; it just moved the price, and in Tempus AI’s case, without a source I’m willing to name.
