Technology Steadied. The Rest of the Market Did Not Get an All-Clear.

A quieter Nasdaq finish still left stocks lower ahead of a dense week of earnings and central-bank decisions.

Wall Street finished lower Friday even as technology shares steadied after Thursday’s sharp selloff. Reuters reported a small gain in the S&P technology sector, while most sectors declined.

Consumer staples, consumer discretionary shares and financials were among the groups under pressure. The narrower technology stabilization therefore did not amount to a broad market recovery.

Energy remained a concern. Reuters’ global-market reporting described oil at elevated levels amid further supply fears in the Middle East. At the same time, investors prepared for results from major AI customers and a Federal Reserve meeting the following week.

Those events would test both sides of the investment equation. Company results and spending plans would inform future cash flows; policy and bond markets would influence financing costs and valuation. Friday’s comparatively restrained technology move offered a pause in the selling, not a resolution of the questions that caused it.
